Not based on a reason

An international exhibition titled Not Based on a Reason opened on 5 December in the Arosita Gallery in Sofia. The project features the works of five young artists from Mexico, Iraq, Korea, Austria and Bulgaria, presenting their views on superstitions and prejudice. Before the opening, the participants met the audience in Goethe-Institut Sofia.

Azalea Ortega (Mexico), Ahmed Thaer (Iraq), Katerina Dimitrova (Bulgaria), Manuel Horak (Austria) and Nayeun Park (South Korea) all met at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and created a unique cultural melange, rooted in their five countries of origin. A year ago they visited Bulgaria and were impressed by the power of superstitions in the country. Consequently, they came up with the concept for the exhibition Not Based on a Reason.

According to the artists, there are superstitions in all cultures. They have become part of the cultural heritage of a nation. That is why the exposition focuses both on the variety of superstitions and the similarities among them.

The exhibition runs until 18 December.
